Henk and I started the day feeling tired after a restless night as the room was very warm and we couldn't get enough fresh air through the little bedroom window. We set out later as our walk depended upon the tides to cross two estuaries. We called into Tescos for lunch supplies and it then took two kilometres of climbing Milford Haven's bitumen footpaths to get us back onto the cliffs. It was good to start leaving the industrial areas behind us.
It threatened to rain all day but we were lucky as it held off with only a few sprinkles. We walked seven kilometres to the first inlet crossing at Sandy Haven and had early lunch waiting for the tide to subside and reveal the walkway.
If the tides hadn't been right we would have had to take a long road detour of six kilometres.
It was another seven kilometres to the second crossing. On the way we walked on low cliffs with an abundance of flowers. It looked very pretty.
The last kilometre to the second estuary crossing was taxing as it was on a very stony beach and the going was slow. We had to walk along the length of the beach to get to the crossing.
My progress was made slower with a blister on my right little toe. Even with Compede it decided to make its presence felt. After crossing the estuary we only had two kilometres to get to our B&B and I was pleased to have arrived.
John is staying in another B&B tonight and Neil, Henk and I are on the other side of the small coastal village. We met at the Griffin Inn for dinner at six thirty and talked about tomorrow's walking strategy given that the forecast is guaranteed 100% rain. John had us in fits of laughter describing his "jolly hockey sticks hosts" at his B&B.
The Griffin Inn was recently voted the best seafood establishment in Wales. We didn't know this until we were sitting down for dinner. We were served by a young NZ woman who lived in Brisbane for a year. Given that it was an award-winning place we decided to try their seafood meals. We were not disappointed and we were on such a high that we even had their desserts. Henk and I had "Knicker Bocker" a Welsh icecream parfait which was delicious.
When we walked home in the rain the tide was very high and we were feeling very contented after such a lovely meal.
